Garden of the Gods beside Pikes Peak

Garden of the Gods adds accessible red-rock trails and geology to a weekend otherwise centered on Pikes Peak and the Incline. From Manitou Springs, it is the clearest scenic choice for travelers who do not want another high-altitude or strenuous outing.

Paved paths and a scenic drive make the park accessible to many visitors. Arrive before the lots tighten, carry sun cover, and choose between a Central Garden stroll, visitor-center geology, roadside photographs, or a longer trail under the red walls.

Pick the version of the park you want

First-light loop

Arrive early and walk the paved Central Garden paths beneath Gateway Rock before the lots fill, then visit the geology exhibits for current park information.

Visitor-center first

Good for families, uncertain weather, and geology context. The exhibits explain the formations before the group enters Central Garden.

Trail-minded morning

Add the Siamese Twins Trail for its rock-window view toward Pikes Peak, then return to Central Garden with water and sun cover.

Drive-and-photo pass

Use the scenic drive and the Gateway and Balanced Rock parking areas when time or mobility limits walking. The route reaches major formations without requiring a longer trail.

The light matters

Hard midday sun increases glare and contrast. Early and late light reveals more shape in the formations and softer color in the sandstone.

The park is free

Admission to the Colorado Springs city park and its visitor center is free. Check current hours, road notices, and shuttle information before arrival.

Manitou is close

Downtown Manitou sits a short drive west of the park, so the mineral springs, restaurants, and historic district remain convenient before or after a visit.

A simple Garden morning

Leave Manitou early enough to reach a Central Garden lot before the busiest hours.
Walk before the visitor center if the weather and light are good.
Visit the visitor center for geology, maps, restrooms, and current park information.
Keep lunch close: Manitou, Old Colorado City, or west Colorado Springs.

When to skip it

Skip Garden of the Gods only if the group has already committed to a full Pikes Peak day or a serious Incline morning and needs quiet afterward. For everyone else, Central Garden offers a scenic walk with far less exertion than the Incline or a high-altitude summit visit.
